University Teaching and Curriculum Development
Ignite. Instill. Inspire.
I’ve built a robust foundation in post-secondary teaching across undergraduate and graduate programs, drawing on more than seven years of experience at Gardner-Webb University, Central Piedmont Community College, and Simmons University. I have provided in-person course instruction and designed and facilitated fully online modules, both synchronous and asynchronous. I take pride in crafting inclusive learning environments where students feel supported to explore, question, and grow.
Here are some highlights from my teaching experience:
Course & Curriculum Design:
Developed and updated undergraduate public health and health promotion curricula at Gardner-Webb and Central Piedmont, and designed graduate-level MPH courses at Simmons, inclusive of Research Methods and MPH Capstone course design and instruction.
Instructional Delivery:
Delivered over 1000 contact hours in lecture and workshop formats—both face-to-face and online—using a mix of live discussions, pre-recorded lectures, and interactive forums to meet diverse learning styles.
Learning Management Systems:
I’m proficient in Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, and 2U platforms to organize content, track student progress, and foster active engagement through quizzes, discussion boards, and peer-review activities.
Student Advising & Mentorship:
Guided undergraduates and MPH candidates through academic planning, career exploration, and capstone projects; held virtual office hours and one-on-one consultations to support personal and professional development.
Assessment & Feedback:
Designed clear, competency-based rubrics for essays, presentations, and group projects; provided timely, constructive feedback emphasizing strengths, growth areas, and actionable next steps.
This journey has taught me that impactful teaching arises from thoughtful course design, adaptive delivery, and meaningful connections that prepares learners to become curious, resilient, and equity-minded professionals. My fondest achievement is converting several students that were just taking a intro public health course because it was "required" to students that are inspired to a career path in public health!
